Yesterday

Yesterday was just another day - and yet there were a few events which my HF said made her stop and think.

One of these involved me. I was actually a bit annoyed although she did the right thing and it was probably my fault. We went for an early morning walk and it was supposed to be the usual half hour at least. We'd gone about 10 minutes or so, (I'd had a few sniffs along the way) but then I realised there was another dog lurking in someone's front yard so I stopped to say hello (of course...). She (well, that was another reason for stopping!) and I exchanged smells and then I had to go (the tug of the tow rope called). But my new friend started following. I think we both thought she'd trail a bit and then lope back off home but no, she kept coming.

So HF stopped and had a look at my little friend. At least she had a council tag on and another one too, but it was still dark and the street light wasn't good enough. HF decided we should go back and see if the little follower would drop off at her house along the way. But she didn't and she ended up coming all the way back to the house with us! so much for my walk.

Anyway, one of the other tags had a phone number so HF rang the number, even though it was still rather early. It turned out that the my new friend had gone missing the previous night and her owner was very pleased to know she had found. She got out of bed and came around in her pyjamas to pick her up. It also turns out that we walked right past where she lives - but since the bitch is about 10, perhaps she was suffering from Alzheimer's, as she hasn't been living there very long.

The other thing was apparently on the way home for my HF, in the evening, after dinner. Two Chinese girls asked if they could use her phone as their's had run out of credit. I think she thought that it might be a ploy to nick her phone but she did let them - they needed to make contact with someone they were meeting - and in the event, it was all alright.

They were just two little things but I think she felt she had done at least a little good ;=) . Still, if we see another stray dog when we're out walking, I won't let on; I want my full length walks! I didn't get a walk in the evening either, as she had gone out to dinner with some friends - to celebrate life and to toast a friend who had died, too young, too soon. I'll accept that excuse this time.
